A decision made following an individual assessment
A penile prosthesis may be discussed with a urologist when erectile dysfunction persists and other options are ineffective, poorly tolerated or do not reflect the patient’s informed choice. A diagnosis or an associated condition is not, on its own, sufficient grounds for deciding on surgery.
What to prepare for the consultation
Provide details of your medical history, current treatments, any previous operations and the solutions you have tried to treat erectile dysfunction. Specify their effects, their limitations and any difficulties encountered. Do not stop taking any medication without your prescriber’s advice.

A penile Doppler scan may be offered in certain situations; it is not a mandatory procedure for all patients. The assessment depends on the consultation, the examination and the questions the doctor needs to answer.
The questions that matter
Ask what alternatives are still available, why an implant might be considered, and what risks apply to your situation. Ask for clarification on the differences between models, how to operate the pump, the healing process, expectations regarding length, and the conditions under which a repeat operation might be necessary.
The aim is not to choose a prosthesis based solely on an advert, a price or a patient testimonial. A demonstration of the device and a discussion of expectations can help you reach a joint decision.
Preparing for a trip to Turkey
Before making any booking, ask for a written plan: the location of the treatment, the surgeon’s details, any necessary tests, check-ups, the proposed length of stay and post-operative follow-up. The date on which you can resume normal activities and authorisation to travel must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
TebbHelp can facilitate communication and organisation. The decision on whether surgery is indicated rests with the healthcare professional assessing you.
